Bente Sandvig (NO)

Elected chairman of The Council for Religious and Life Stance Communities in Norway.

In her professional life, Ms Sandvig is employed as manager of lifestance and political matters at the head office of the Norwegian Humanist Association. When it comes to education Ms Sandvig is trained as a teacher and in addition she has studied sociology, school development and religion and ethics. She has been working in the field religion and lifestance for about twenty years, and was previously in charge of the “Teaching for tolerance”-project and a board member of The Oslo Coalition for Freedom of Religion. She was also a member of the government appointed commission that proposed changes in the state-church relations. She also represented The Norwegian Humanist Association in the case protesting the new mandatory religious instruction subject introduced in Norway in 1997. Both UN`s Human Rights Committee and The European Human Rights Court stated that Norway violated their human rights obligations in this case.
