His area of research is mainly in the area of religion and politics, migration and religious minority groups in Denmark. He is editor of Islamforskning (Journal for Islam Research). His publications include Holy Nations & Global Identities. Civil Religion, Nationalism and Globalisation. (Leiden: Brill 2009) co-edited with Annika Hvithamar and Margit Warburg; ‘Muslims on the Political Agenda’ in Nordic Journal of Religion and Society, vol. 23, nr. 1, pp. 15-35; Tørre tal om troen. Religionsdemografi i det 21. århundrede [Dry numbers on faith. Demography of Religion in the 21st Century] (Univers, 2007) co-edited with Margit Warburg and many other articles.
